Responsible Consumption: Why is recycling important?

If we compare the amount of waste generated in the world throughout history, in the last 40 years, more waste has been produced than from the origin of mankind until 1970.

What is the composition of the waste we produce today? 45% organic matter, 22% paper and cardboard, 10% plastic, 7% glass, 4% metal, 2% Tetra Pak, and 10% other waste.

Why is recycling important?

  • If we recycle 2 tons of plastic, we save 1 ton of crude oil, a significant amount of water, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize waste generated during the process.
  • If we recycle 1 plastic bottle, we save the energy equivalent to keeping a light bulb on for 6 hours.
  • With 5 PET bottles of 2 liters, we can produce filling fiber for a ski jacket. For every ton of Tetra Pak packaging converted into recycled Tectan (used for producing floors and furniture), we save 1,500 kg of wood, 100,000 liters of water, and 221 kg of fuel.
  • Metal packaging can be recycled indefinitely without losing quality.
  • By recycling aluminum, we save 95% of the energy required to produce the same amount of aluminum from bauxite ore.
  • To manufacture 1 ton of high-quality paper, we need 3.3 tons of wood.

Recycling is a habit we learn from a young age! Let's take care of the planet!
