What do you think when you hear sustainable development?

But this concept goes far beyond that and encompasses all aspects of an organization.

It is very common when we hear these types of terms to think about helping "poor or needy people" through in-kind and financial donations, and even participating in reforestation efforts.

But this concept goes far beyond and encompasses all areas of an organization. In general, sustainable development covers issues related to:

  • Corporate governance management through transparency and accountability.
  • Generating social, economic, and environmental impacts as a result of the company's business practices.
  • The direct and indirect influence that the company may have on its stakeholders, such as suppliers, customers, employees, strategic allies, investors, the community, among others.
  • Undertaking preventive/remedial actions to respond to impacts that can have a positive or negative effect on the company's results and operations.

But then, what is Sustainable Development?

According to the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), it is defined as a process of change towards a situation in which production, consumption, and investment habits allow people, both present and future, to enjoy the material, social, and environmental conditions that enable them to have a dignified existence and a better quality of life.
